Earlier in the week was the first Canadian Tuxedo softball game, (the softball team Todd is on w/ a bunch of his friends). Even though they got creamed, it proved to be a lot of fun. One member is just the boombox player for when the guys go up to bat. The totally sweet selections included 311 and the theme song from the Lion King, just to name a few. Totally hilarious… AND this happens every Tuesday for the next month or so.

Saturday my mom & step dad rolled into town for a short visit. Todd & I took them to Eureka Springs where we randomly happened upon a surprisingly delicious hippy restaurant. Turns out it was owned by the first person to ever open a vegetarian restaurant in Greenwich Village. That was about the most impressive thing we found there. The visit with the fam was quite nice though.

On to more important news.. I simply can’t get over what has happened in New Orleans. I can’t stop trying to wrap my mind around the fact that so many lives are changed in so many different ways. I want to help, but how does someone who doesn’t have money to donate contribute?

So last night Todd & I went to the Washington County Fair. We sat at the bar of a 70’s style food stand stuffing our faces with cheeseburgers and krinkle cut fries when Laura & Eric walked by. Friends and the fair – what more could ya want? How about two-for-one rides? Yep. For the next couple hours our adventures included the Tilt-A-Whirl that wouldn’t quit tilting or whirling (note the not so happy faces & stomachs in the picture), a jank ferris wheel ride, gettin hooked on the redneck version of the slot machine, riding the Himalayas for about 10 minutes, and poloroids with Leroy the monkey (who kissed Todd on the cheek).

It’s so incredibly different than the Memphis fair… people don’t get shot or robbed. However you also miss out on deep fried candy bars and “Pork Butt On A Stick.” Either way, I love the fair so much. I think I always will.

we kissed our lafayette house goodbye and said hello to our new one. thanks to our wonderful friends our insane amount of furniture and boxes are all moved. slowly but surely we’re becoming more organized, but it will be a while before everything is set up to where it feels like our home. we’re about at the point where we need to start painting before we can really put things where they’re suppose to be. i’m thinking a green tea color for my room, but we’ll see.

school starts back in less than a week. with the summer off, i’m actually getting kind of excited to go back. i finally get to take a couple more journalism courses this semester. however i’m signed up for 6 classes in all and i just hope i can handle it.

recently i started liking my job a whole lot more. i asked for a dollar more per hour and got it. score!

there’s a good chance that i’ll be spending thanksgiving in NYC this year. i spent christmas there this past year and am aching to go back. my fingers are crossed..

ok. off to organize..

won’t last through the fall

We returned from Texas last night after a ridiculous 9 hour drive. The trip consisted of a day at the Galveston beach, a 100 degree afternoon at Six Flags, eating loads of food, lots of reading, and a trip to one of my favorite stores in the world.

As soon as we got home, we started moving things to our new house. Our goal is to be moved in less than 6 days. I have no idea if that is actually possible, but we’re going to try.. Not only do we have all of our crap & furniture, but the house we’re getting is completely furnished too.

On a lighter note, I am now the proud owner of a CHI hair straightener. I tried out Todd’s sister’s on the trip & it was like putting on my first pair of Diesels or Sevens.. I knew that I could never go back.

i spent the afternoon in lovely springdale exploring dirty antique stores. came home with western shirts & many pairs of cowboy boots to sell. gotta keep a pair for myself though.

speakin of boots, last night cory branan played a jager inspired show at jr’s. the evening came to a close with roy berry playing snare-less drums & cory smashing his guitar in half. good times, good times.

sooo a copy of lucero’s attic tapes just sold on ebay for over $200 & i just happen to have the exact rare record. something leaves me uneasy about selling my vinyl. i have held onto every record that i’ve bought since i first nervously walked into midsouth lps & cds when i was 15… to sell or not to sell?

last but not least, my dad got married last weekend!
