Take the Tide #QuickColdPledge

This post is sponsored by Tide at Walmart, but all opinions are my own.

Living in Northwest Arkansas is amazing for many different reasons, but one reason people might not realize is that we have a lot of unique opportunities with Walmart‘s Home Office located here. We often hear of cool new happenings before the rest of the world, which is exactly what happened to me this week! I had the chance to visit Walmart’s headquarters during their Sustainability Milestone Summit where Procter & Gamble (P&G) and Tide shared some major news: announcing their commitment to eliminate 50 million tons of greenhouse gases from their supply chain in support of Walmart’s Project Gigaton. If you aren’t familiar, Project Gigaton was launched by Walmart last year with the goal of eliminating one billion metric tons (that’s a gigaton!) of CO2 emission from its supply chain by 2030. For reference, that’s the equivalent to taking 211 million passenger vehicles off of U.S. roads and highways for a year. Talk about #goals!

P&G and Tide’s commitment is to cut their greenhouse gas emissions in half and purchase enough renewable electricity to power 100 percent of global manufacturing sites by the year 2030. Along with this commitment, P&G and Tide are encouraging all Americans to join in this effort by taking the #QuickColdPledge. So what exactly is it? The Tide #QuickColdPledge encourages everyone to switch to quick and cold cycles when doing laundry. It’s THAT simple, but the impact can be huge. By using the quickest setting and cold water, you use 80% less energy with 40% fewer emissions in every load. And, Tide PODS provide 10 times the cleaning power in half the time when compared to the leading bargain brand detergent, even in cold water. Earth Day is right around the corner, so what better time than now to make the pledge?

I am indeed a loyal Tide user at home, but honestly I’ve been buying it because I just love the smell and how it cleans my clothes. While those are important factors when choosing laundry detergent, I now can feel even better about my washes. And it’s not just because of the #QuickColdPledge. I also had the opportunity to explore one of the Tide Loads of Hope trucks at the Walmart Home Office. Essentially a mobile laundromat, the Tide Loads of Hope truck was developed to provide the basic comfort of clean clothes to families affected by natural disasters, such as hurricanes, wildfires, tornados, etc. The program has been around since 2005 and in that time has provided nearly 50,000 families across the country with clean clothes. I got the grand tour of the smaller truck, which does about 100 loads of laundry a day! The bigger truck can wash a whopping 200 loads. Tide Loads of Hope partners with Matthew 25: Ministries, an international humanitarian aid and disaster relief organization, to arrange the deployments.

Let Tide know why you’re taking the pledge by posting using #QuickColdPledge. If you live in Northwest Arkansas, stop by the Walmart Supercenter on Pleasant Crossing in Rogers on Saturday, April 21 from 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm. There will be a bright orange Tide booth out front, with loads (pun intended) of information on the #QuickColdPledge and, everyone’s favorite, free Tide PODS samples! I swung by the booth at the Walmart store in Bentonville on Wednesday to get my goodies and, of course, to make my pledge.

April Showers Bring May Travels

Last week I jetted off to The OC for a quick couple days of business meetings. While it was certainly a work trip, it sure was nice to hang with the sunshine, palm trees, and Mickey for minute. On the last evening, we took the short walk from our hotel to Disneyland – KID FREE! While of course there’s nothing more magical than experiencing Disney through the eyes of a child, there is something pretty darn sweet about going with no agenda. No pressure. No hight restrictions. Flying home the next morning (Friday the 13th!), our plane darted around some pretty severe storms in NW Arkansas. It was one time I was thankful for no cell service because turns out, a tornado was touching down in a nearby town at the exact same time we were landing. Needless to say, it felt extra good to get home safely that night.

Now I get to turn my attention to our next travel adventure – our Rosemary Beach, Florida trip! This will be our fifth annual May trip to Rosemary and we are thrilled to be going with our same friends as last year. Now that Iris is older, it really is fantastic for her to have another kid her age to play with all week. We lucked out this year and scooped up a beach house that is actually ON the beach. We leave in just over two weeks and I seriously cannot wait. This trip always feels like the true transition from spring to summer, which by the way is my most favorite season of them all. I’m just ready for sunshine, even if Mickey isn’t around.

Pooparoos Surpriseroos!

This post is sponsored by Pooparoos Supriseroos, but all opinions are my own.

Please tell me that your kids are as obsessed with unboxing surprise toys as Iris is. Yeah? Thought so! And please tell me your kids think nothing is funnier than the word “poop.” That too? Thank goodness! Well my friends, then we have just discovered what is soon to be your kiddo’s next favorite toy – Pooparoos Surpriseroos (click here to add a Pooparoo to your Walmart cart)!

So what exactly are Pooparoos Supriseroos? Each cute ‘lil pal comes with four adorable “foods” and a serving tray. There are eight in total, all blind/random, so you can build your own squad and try to collect them all. Iris’ favorite part is how the “toilet paper” dissolves – that’s how you discover what surprise food your character gets to eat. Then you feed them and squeeze them to help them go!

Available exclusively at Walmart, you can find them online and in-store. Iris had just as much fun opening these toys as she does playing with them. The hungry little characters also like to chomp on other things, like pencils Iris has discovered, so she’s already snuck one into her backpack for school tomorrow. So now, it’s off to collect the others!

Travel Love: Big Cedar Lodge

This year Iris had her first real Spring Break – and we had our first real experience of figuring out what to do with her for a week. Since Todd and I don’t get Spring Break off at our day jobs, Iris spent the first few days with my mom and then we headed off to Big Cedar Lodge on that Thursday. It’s only an hour and a half away, so after working a half-day, we hit the road and arrived right at check-in. Now I’m not really a nature person (camping is fine, like once a year as long as there’s coffee and an air mattress) and I’m not a golfer, so even though Big Cedar is so close, I’ve never really had a big desire to stay there. Finally though, this past New Years, we stayed at a cabin nearby and made our way to their Top of the Rock property and I instantly knew we had to come back. It was stunning.

So after a little bit of research, we ended up renting a Lakeside Cottage with some of our good friends. Big Cedar can be quite pricey if you rent one of their cabins, but the cottage options are more affordable and are still way more than you need. They are only a couple years old, so everything still feels new and they are still very luxurious for being the cheaper option. Yes, they are about as far away as you can get from the rest of the resort, but there’s a free shuttle that we utilized quite a bit. Plus, the cabins are right next to a heated infinity pool and hot tub overlooking the lake – no shuttle needed. If you like staying in a cabin, but like the perks of a hotel (room service, daily-cleaning, turn-down service, etc.) – then this is the perfect combo. With the cottage we also had a full-size kitchen, so we made some meals and saved a few bucks. Another one of the perks about a cabin or cottage is that you can split the room rate with your friends like we did, so it made it very doable price-wise.

On our first morning, we experienced Fun Mountain, which is right there in the resort. It seemed brand new and had bowling, laser tag, an arcade, two kinds of bumper cars, a rock wall, a huge slide/play area, food options, and of course a bar. We spent hours there and – big surprise – the kids loved it.

What I really appreciated about Big Cedar was that it had a million things for kids to do without it being a kids resort. Meaning, the adults had an equally good time (having a nice bar at every turn was very helpful). We had a good mix of down time where we just enjoyed being by the lake (our cottage had a nice porch with rocking chairs and a lake view), and then a lot of adventures too. There were so many activities for kids, we didn’t have time to do them all but we certainly tried. There are several pools, free mini golf, a s’mores station on weekend nights, scavenger hunts, etc.

I found my version of Fun Mountain at the spa. I’m not exaggerating when I said it was HEAVENLY. Brandy and I had late morning massages scheduled and then stayed for several hours exploring the 18,000 square foot space. We could have stayed even longer, but we thought that wouldn’t be too fair to the dads. In fact, I now want to plan a girls trip solely centered around spending time at the spa. The massage itself was about the best I’ve had in terms of the full experience. There was a fireplace next to the very comfortable, heated massage table which my masseuse used to warm up my robe. Afterwards, I found Brandy and we spent a while at the Grotto. We lounged and sipped wine, alternating between the warm grotto pool and ice room. Getting a little hungry, we ordered lunch to be delivered then hung out in the sauna, steam room, and woman’s hot tub while it was being prepared. They set us up in the Bridal Suite to eat lunch, which was a lucky surprise – it was the perfect setting for a perfectly relaxing lunch – and we had it all to ourselves. So romantic! Hah.

Top of the Rock
So it’s a little confusing, but from what I gather Top of the Rock is the same owner, but on the other side of the highway (so it was the only spot the shuttle wouldn’t take us). We didn’t have time to visit the natural history museum at Top of the Rock, but there were still tons of places to explore and unique details that the kids loved. We ate two different dinners at the Buffalo Bar, which is the casual version of the Osage restaurant upstairs. The open-air feel and views of the rolling hills made this our favorite stop for evening food and drinks. They also have a sunset ceremony where they blast an old-timey cannon, so of course the kids loved that. On our last afternoon, we did the golf cart trail at Top of the Rock. It’s a bit pricey, but I’m glad we did. Once again, the views are incredible and riding around on a golf cart is always fun, especially since you get to drive through a cave. Best part? There’s a drive-through bar inside the cave (of course there is)! And lastly, we went to the Sunday brunch at Osage before we headed out. It’s all-you-can-eat, but done in a really nice way. And the bottomless mimosas were a perfect send off!

Spring Forward

Oh, hey! What’s that sound? SPRING! Finally. I’m so over the dreary, cold days we’ve been having over here. And of course yet again, we have gotten through another winter with not one good snow. Not one! I blame it on the snowsuit I bought for Iris three years ago. We haven’t had one snow day since I purchased it. When I first moved to NW Arkansas over ten years ago, I swear our winters were more exciting than they are now. My hometown of Memphis (known for its sweltering summers) has even gotten more fluffy white stuff than us up here in the mountains.

Anyway, at least we’ve rounded the corner and warmer weather is ahead. As much as I love a good snow day, summer has always been my thing. Speaking of bikinis, this week is Iris’ very first Spring Break, but (whomp whomp) no beach fun for her. Todd and I still have to work most of the week, so my mom has graciously taken her during the day. Later this week though, we are having a bit of a spring break adventure. We’re heading over to Big Cedar Lodge for a few days to stay in a cute little cottage with some of our best buddies. Until then, we’re putting on our spying goggles and looking out for the cast and crew of True Detective, which is currently filming all around our town.

Catch ya on the other side of spring break.
