February Roundup

February.
It was kind of a rough month. Mostly because of work and weather. Just very hectic all the way around. I’m very happy for March to have started, meaning we’re oh-so-close to SPRING! Our upcoming schedule is still busy, but mostly with fun stuff like road trips, birthdays, and March Madness (go Hogs!).

Here’s how we spent the month, accompanied by some of my favorite February Instagram photos:

+ My big, annual work meeting is always at the end of February. There’s a ton of prep and stress leading up to it, but this one was especially rough due to an ice storm that hit our location (Dallas, Texas of all places). It was the longest I’ve ever been away from Iris (five nights) and I had to give not one, but TWO presentations. We all survived though and are thankful to have another successful meeting in the books.
+ I had a big sale on Instagram. A little confession: I often justify buying Iris so many clothes because I know I can usually resell them. I sold over 60 items, with all proceeds going to our beach vacation fund for spending money. That way I won’t feel guilty about eating out every night or ordering that second mojito. Our trip is just over two months away!
+ Iris and I made heart-shaped crayons to give to her classmates for Valentine’s Day.
+ We had snow. We also had 70 degree days. I’m officially ready for more of the latter.
+ I was chosen to be a Blog Ambassador for Ezpz (a company that makes super awesome children’s plate/placemat combos).
+ Iris received a few AMAZING pieces from Vivi Jewel’s new spring line.

Ice. Snow. Roads. My worst nightmare.

I'm pretty sure this business trip is the longest I've ever been away from Iris (five nights). But now my two presentations are behind me and only one more day of meetings to go until I'm making my way back home to my family. The working mom struggle is r

I'm home! And I brought the Texas snow with me.

My Three-Year Old Hates Taylor Swift

I admit it. I LOVE Taylor Swift. As soon as her latest album was released, I rushed to Target to buy it. I took Iris along with me and on our ride home we listened to a few songs. It was then and there that I realized my only child does not share the same tastes as me. And from that day on, she has not let me forget it (despite my constant efforts to convert her). As much as I like Taylor, I love Iris a million times more for not giving in to mom-pressure and for standing up for something she doesn’t appreciate… Even if she’s wrong. 🙂

Snow (Cream) Day!

This was one of the best snow days ever. Thanks to Presidents Day, I was already scheduled to be off work, so I stayed in my pajamas all day and didn’t once feel guilty about it. Iris’ school was closed due to the icy roads, so we stayed warm together and made a day of it. We ate french toast for breakfast, watched movies, drank hot chocolate, played in the snow (for about 30 seconds before Iris wanted to come inside), did laundry, maybe I had an afternoon beer while Iris napped, AND we made SNOW CREAM!

Here’s our little snow cream adventure.
Iris called our creation, “deeee-licious!”

The Polka Dot Dress

Baby clothes

Last week I did a big sale on Instagram, selling off some of Iris’ clothes that she just doesn’t fit into any more (insert waterfall of tears here). As I was going through bags of old clothes, I found one item that I knew I just couldn’t part with.

When I first found out I was pregnant back in early 2011, I bought two pieces of clothing. One for a boy and one for a girl. At that time I had no idea which one I’d need. I also apparently had no idea how to buy baby clothes. Despite the fact that this sweet polka dot number had a tag that read “3T”, I thought it was a perfect little baby dress.

As I rediscovered it this past weekend, I realized that now it was truly her size. The stars aligned because, despite it being an early February day, the weather was warm and sunny, so once again Iris wore the first “dress” that she ever owned.

And she’s owned a lot.

And for the record, Iris pulled off the boy outfit pretty well too.

January Roundup

1/12 of 2015 is already gone.
Here’s a quick look at what I did with it:

+ One of my oldest and bestest friends Kerri (and her fam) came to visit
+ A visit to Crystal Bridges
+ Iris got a big girl haircut
+ Iris’ school opened a new Primary building
+ Loved some unseasonably warm weather
+ Worried about my dad (he’s been dealing some health stuff)
+ Spent time with friends
+ Got a new Macbook Pro. Woo hoo!
+ Ballet classes (for Iris)
+ Basketball and beer (for me)
+ A very busy month at work
+ Saw Slava’s Snow Show with my family
+ Made it a month without breaking my New Year’s resolution (blogging!). That might be a record, folks.

First day in the new building></p>

Bangs!

Ten years ago I saw Slava's Snowshow in NYC on Christmas Day. A full decade later, I saw it again today with my little family here in Fayetteville. (Thanks to my mom both times. ❤️)
